As both teams floundered at the bottom of the WCBL standings for the 2009 portion of the season, it came as a surprise to all that the best game of the past weekend featured the Wildcats and Assault. In a score that was reminiscent of the early 80′s Denver Nuggets, the Nielsen Golgis and Nevermore seemed to ignore the defensive aspect of the game as they combined for 252 points in a 142-110 Golgis victory.  Led by Randy Nohr’s game high 34 points and 13 assists, along with 30 points from forward Jim Martin, the Golgis turned an eighteen point lead off the opening tip into a twenty point halftime lead, and escalated from there to as much as thirty six points.  While normally a hundred point effort has led to a victory, Nevermore could not match the …

Sometimes it isn’t so much you beating your opponent that gets the victory, as it is your opponent beating themselves.  Either way you looked at it Sunday afternoon, the Nielsen Golgis continue to sit at the head table of the WCBL standings with a 105-101 victory over the Runnin’ Rebels.  Giving up multiple points via a smorgasbord of missed layups, technical fouls, errant defensive assignments and turnovers, the Rebels found themselves constantly chasing the Golgis throughout the entire game.   Possessing a seven point advantage after the first twenty minutes of action, the Golgis were unable to put the final …
