As both teams floundered at the bottom of the WCBL standings for the 2009 portion of the season, it came as a surprise to all that the best game of the past weekend featured the Wildcats and Assault. After a quick 12-2 start, the Wildcats were on the negative end of a 30-7 run, as Assault looked to start the new year with better balance and chemistry than they left behind in 2009. Possessing a 42-25 first half lead, Assault continued to maintain a double digit advantage until the final eight minutes of the second half when Wildcats …

NEVERMORE SCARES FALCONS….GOLGIS NOHR SETS ANOTHER WCBL RECORD….REBELS RESIST ASSAULT
As Santa forced the WCBL to relocate to Sands Secondary for the final game of 2009, it appeared that the change of venue was something that Nevermore was more than willing to accept as they pushed the Falcons to the limit. Despite the 82-71 loss, the game was much closer than the score indicated as it wasn’t until end of the final twenty minutes that the Falcons, led by Shami Gill’s second straight forty plus game, 7-2 run pushed them into the double digit comfort zone. With a little extra pep in their step, both Gill and Nevermore swingman Jim …
GOLGIS AND NEVERMORE STUGGLE ON “D”….REBELS TAME WILDCATS….FALCONS WITHSTAND ASSAULT
In a score that was reminiscent of the early 80′s Denver Nuggets, the Nielsen Golgis and Nevermore seemed to ignore the defensive aspect of the game as they combined for 252 points in a 142-110 Golgis victory. Led by Randy Nohr’s game high 34 points and 13 assists, along with 30 points from forward Jim Martin, the Golgis turned an eighteen point lead off the opening tip into a twenty point halftime lead, and escalated from there to as much as thirty six points. While normally a hundred point effort has led to a victory, Nevermore could not match the …
NEVERMORE HITS .500 MARK….BALANCED REBELS ATTACK HOLDS OFF FALCONS….
Led by Jim Taylor’s team high 20 points, Nevermore has now put together their second two game winning streak of the season and evened their record at .500 with an 85-80 victory over the Wildcats. Not quite halfway through the season, Nevermore has already posted a better record than in recent years and with the victory, find themselves in uncharted waters as they hold down the third seed in the WCBL rankings. Trailing for the duration of the first half, Nevermore clawed back into the game by making the most of their second chance opportunities and limiting …
GOLGIS THISCLOSE TO FIRST LOSS….FALCONS TRY TO GET BACK IN THE GROOVE….ASSAULT NO SHOW AFTER VICTORY
Sometimes it isn’t so much you beating your opponent that gets the victory, as it is your opponent beating themselves. Either way you looked at it Sunday afternoon, the Nielsen Golgis continue to sit at the head table of the WCBL standings with a 105-101 victory over the Runnin’ Rebels. Giving up multiple points via a smorgasbord of missed layups, technical fouls, errant defensive assignments and turnovers, the Rebels found themselves constantly chasing the Golgis throughout the entire game. Possessing a seven point advantage after the first twenty minutes of action, the Golgis were unable to put the final …
ASSAULT ENTERS THE WIN COLUMN…REBELS DROP NEVERMORE…GOLGIS REMAIN UNBLEMISHED
Like David Silver waiting for Donna Martin circa 1990something, good things come to those who wait, and for Assault, the wait ended on Sunday with a convincing 91-77 victory over the Wildcats. After struggling through the first five games of the season, the Assault lineup started to get things figured out with a close game last week against the Runnin’ Rebels to kickstart their first positive result this week. Paced by Jag Aujla’s 32 points and 10 rebound effort, his fourth double double of the season, Assault jumped out to an early 22-11 lead, before suffering their only setback of …

THE 2009-2010 WCBL SCHEDULE
November 15 / 2009
Last season the Wildcats finished the season just one game below .500 and appeared to be on the verge of being one of the young up and coming squads in the WCBL. However less than a year later a lot has changed. With leading scorer Jeff Chu playing only two of five games and the loss of big man Alex Smith who did not return this season, the Wildcats have struggled to find stable leadership and a go to source for points in the …

THE 2009-2010 WCBL SCHEDULE
NOV 8 / 2009
Much of Sunday’s action in the WCBL could be compared to that of LL Cool J’s short lived feud with Canibus…..one sided, with the “egg mcmuffin” game being the only closely contested battle. Struggling through the first three games in their inaugural season, Assault entered their game against the Falcons with some depth off the bench, but still remained undersized in the paint. Capitalizing on the Falcons lack of manpower, Assault closed the first half with a 54-49 lead, as the Falcons struggled with their bread …
